Required Information for your Company Website

Posted in Legal by Dr Christian Bridge-Harrington

There are a number of pieces of information that, as a registered company, you are required to display on your website. These do not need to be on every page, but must be clearly presented at least once. An ideal place would be an "About Us" page, or a "Company Details" page.

A brief summary of the required information is:

  • Name, geographic address and e-mail address of the service provider, i.e. you.
  • The name of the organisation that the website is representing, this might not necessarily be the same as the trading name, but any difference must be explained.
  • An e-mail address and a geographic address must be provided, you cannot simply have an anonymous "Contact Us" form. The registered office address must be included for companies.
  • The company registration number, and under the Companies Act, the place of registration.
  • If a member of a trade or professional association, membership details, including registration numbers, should be provided.
  • If the company is VAT registered, the VAT number must be provided, even if the website is not used for commercial transactions.
  • Prices for goods must be clear and unambiguously stated, and must be declared to be inclusive (or not) of any taxes (such as VAT) and delivery costs.
